Why should you visit Gobeklitepe?
Gobeklitepe Arhaeologic Site, is located 18 kms norhteast of Sanliurfa provincial center, near Orencik village. The site was first discovered in the year 1693, during a survey cooperated by Istanbul and Chicago Universities. It was then defined as “V52 Neolithic Settlement“.
The actutal value of the site, began to surface with the excavations started in 1994. After those excavations led by Karl Schmidt, it was found Gobeklitepe was a cult center dating as late as 12.000 years. In the middle of a group of 20 circle and oval structres, which measure about 30 meters in diameter, two T-Shaped, 5 meters tall, standalone pylons were found. Pylons were made of limestone. In the light of foundings of at Gobeklitepe the dating of neolithic age needs to updated. The pylons and other columns have carvings of animals and abstract figures still await to clearly explained.
Gobeklitepe is the oldest, -it would not be wrong if we said “first”- temple in the world, so far.

My husband and I had the best possible experience touring Istanbul with Osman. We had seen the major historic sites previously so this time we wanted to see local neighborhoods.... read more Osman was outstanding in guiding us to many different and diverse areas on both sides of the Bosphorus. He intuitively understood exactly what we wanted to visit. We ate at local restaurants, enjoying authentic Turkish food and drank tea in cafes while watching people living their daily lives. As I am a huge fan of Turkish dramas, I was thrilled when Osman didn't give up until he found the street where one of my favorites was filmed! Osman also introduced us to a local ice cream place that we loved! Osman is also extremely knowledgeable about Turkish history and shared his insights as we were touring. Osman also has a great sense of humor, so our days were not only educational, but fun! We would love to tour other parts of the country with Osman.
